I am a lifelong artist by temperament, mostly of a graphic art-experience background as an advertising graphic designer and illustrator.
As for radio, I was one of the original Free Radio Austin Collective founding members, well maybe not THE ORIGINAL members/programmers, at the Oakland Street House (crash pad) that was closed by police, but the later manifestation when the radio got back up on the Eastside that morphed out of, and in conjunction with, the Point-A Collective & Info Shop that was next door to what is "Off Center/Rude Mechanicals", and had a show off and on the final 2-2 1/2 years of the radio's existence at that location on the dial we all fondly remember so well; called "The Angst Bank".I was also a former member of the Austin ABC, that was influential in creating the ABC Network who also had prominent Free Radio members involved, that has virtually disbanded this past summer after 6 years of concerted prison abolition work
and prisoner support; I presently am involved in more of a legal slant in my work with prisoners as new formation called ABC Paralegal Services here in Austin, Texas; which I manage along with occasional graphic work and semi-retired status.I am 67 years old, and have two daughters who live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a connoisseur of avant garde electronic sounds and improvised noise/sound-scapes to borrow trite descriptions; a "Sound Artist" if you will (wontcha?!)
My field of interest is tape-constructed audio deconstruction, for the most part, of a personal nature with socio-political overtones; an add & subtract principle to the edge of mock electronic effects are employed.Art in sound is my primary concern radio-wise, but I will no doubt insert prison/prisoner-related information and material with a literary or philosophical content from time to time; albeit a difficult proposition to combine the two different fields of work with what I do in creative sound; and the cold bone reality of the prison experience.
